The Channel Island Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), also known as the Darwin-Katherine Battery Energy Storage System, is a 35 MW/35 MWh facility located at the Channel Island Power Station near Darwin, Northern Territory. Developed by Territory Generation, this project aims to enhance grid stability and support the integration of renewable energy sources into the Darwin-Katherine electricity network. The BESS utilizes advanced Virtual Synchronous Machine technology to provide virtual inertia and system strength services, reducing reliance on gas-fired generation and contributing to the Northern Territory's renewable energy targets.
